Running from Wednesday, 13 to Saturday, 23 August, this year’s championship marks a major return of the prestigious inter-school tournament to Kenyan soil after nearly a decade.
The event promises a celebration of talent, culture, and regional camaraderie, with six East African nations - Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan fielding their top secondary school athletes to compete for regional glory.
The FEASSSA Games trace their roots to the early 2000s. Born from a vision to foster unity, healthy competition, and youth development, the first edition of the games was held in 2001, evolving from what was initially known as the AHSOSA Sports Festival.

Over the years, the games have grown into a regional spectacle, offering a platform for emerging student-athletes to shine on a bigger stage.
The competition rotates annually among member states, promoting cross-border interaction, tourism, and sports diplomacy.
Back to Kenya: Hosting the Games in Kakamega
Kenya last hosted the FEASSSA Games in 2016 in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. That edition proved historic, with local schools dominating several categories and setting the stage for Kenya's strong presence in regional school sports.
This year, the baton returns to Kenya, with Kakamega County, known for its rich sporting culture and passionate sports fans, selected as the host. Venues will include Bukhungu Stadium, MMUST grounds, Kakamega High School, Mukumu Boys High School and several other schools in the county.
The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) is spearheading the organisation, and expectations are high for a seamless and vibrant edition.
FEASSSA 2025 will feature an impressive 16 sporting disciplines: Football (soccer), Rugby (7s and 15s), Volleyball, Basketball (5x5 and 3x3), Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics, Swimming, Scrabble, Chess, Cricket and Beach Soccer (new).

This year’s edition marks the introduction of beach soccer to the FEASSSA calendar — a move aimed at diversifying sports exposure and aligning with global trends.
Additionally, Kenya is expected to field more teams in girls’ volleyball and boys’ and girls’ football, owing to increased regional slots.
